On February 14th, Avery’s nanny noticed the left side of her face was swollen. After a few trips to the pediatrician, Avery was referred to a pediatric ENT. After that appointment, Avery was immediately admitted to children’s hospital in Milwaukee for urgent scans. That night, we were told Avery most likely had cancer!!! The next day she underwent a biopsy confirming our greatest fear. She was diagnosed eight day after we first noticed the change. A week following, Avery had surgery to place a port for chemotherapy. A week after that, Avery was in the hospital for her first round of chemotherapy. From that point to today, Avery has undergone multiple chemotherapy cycles, blood transfusions, feeding tube placement, has seen multiple physicians, radiation, hair loss, and two hospitalizations (most recently in the ICU). Avery has remained strong and a true champion throughout. Avery has been away from home often but always settles right back in. She loves being home with her dogs and siblings. Avery loves her stuffed animals, soft blankets, and playing toys with her big sister.
