Dylan is silly, bright and energetic 3 1/2 years old, and wonderful twin brother to Tyler. At just 25 months old, he was diagnosed on January 18, 2017 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Pre-B and is classified as Very High Risk. Since Dylan’s diagnosis, he has endured a very aggressive, and longer than Standard, treatment plan due to his Very High Risk classification. Due to this diagnosis, Dylan and Tyler missed a full year of pre-school and social interactions with kids their age because of Dylan’s compromised immune system. Our family was also very often divided as Dylan was going through long days of weekly chemotherapy at clinic, spinal taps, bone marrow extractions and hospital admissions. Dylan is currently in the final, and longest, stage of his treatment plan called Maintenance. He receives daily and weekly oral chemotherapy at home, monthly steroids, as well as monthly trips to clinic and the hospital to receive IV chemotherapy, antibiotics and spinal taps. His immune system is kept within a healthier range, and him and his brother were approved by Dylan’s Oncologist to return to school earlier this year. Despite the vigorous treatment, Dylan always has a good time and keeps smiling.
