Age 13

Lani is 13 years old and has been fighting leukemia since she was just 5 years old. She was first diagnosed at age 5, relapsed at age 8, and earlier this year, our family received the heartbreaking news that her leukemia had returned for a third time. This year has included months in the hospital, chemotherapy, countless tests and procedures, and a bone marrow transplant. Her dad was blessed to be her donor. After a long hospital stay, she was finally able to ring the bell and come home, but her treatment and recovery journey are still ongoing. Through everything she has faced, Lani continues to show incredible strength and resilience. Beyond cancer, she is a fun, loving 13-year-old who enjoys gaming and the same things other kids her age do. Gaming has been especially meaningful during the long hospital stays and periods of isolation because it gives her a way to have fun, connect with others, and simply get to be a kid again. After fighting leukemia three separate times, we would love for Lani to be recognized not just for what she has endured, but for the amazing young person she is beyond her diagnosis. Lani loves gaming, especially Fortnite, and it has been a huge source of joy for her throughout treatment. She loves playing with her friends, laughing, and being able to escape everything medical for a while. She also enjoys music, watching her favorite shows and videos, spending time with family, and anything that lets her relax and just be a normal 13-year-old. Right now, Lani is really into Fortnite, gaming, sports, and collecting sports cards. She especially loves basketball and football. Her favorite teams are the Dallas Mavericks and the Baltimore Ravens, and she loves anything related to those teams. She enjoys collecting basketball and football cards, gaming with her friends, keeping up with Fortnite, listening to music, and watching videos. Anything gaming or sports-related is a big hit with her!

Luna Evangeline Perez was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia standard risk high at the age of 2 on world cancer day (Feb 4, 2025). She has received over 15 blood and 12 platelet infusions and countless rounds of chemo(oral, IV, and spinal). Luna has gone through discomfort, pain, lack of privacy, side effects, isolation and still; she overcomes the fear and charges forward. Challenges military families face are hospital parking fees, copayments for medication issued at the hospital, fuel cost for appointments caused by chemo and cancer side effects (GI, PT, OT, speech, play therapy, and family counseling). This also comes at the cost of a sudden loss of a second income while caring for an immunocompromised child. We also had to relocate our family for better treatment and support during a government shutdown. Luna lost some of her childhood; but she gained a much larger family. A group that supports her in unimaginable ways. We’ve been left speechless on multiple occasions as Luna smiles with excitement. Luna just turned 4 years old September 14th and is still being treated at University Health University Hospital. VR for space and dinosaurs, her cousin had on at our last duty station. Our sweet Maggie Wren, just 2 years old, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Her initial white blood cell count was an unimaginable 440,000. She was so little, but from the very beginning, she showed us just how strong she could be. Chemotherapy started that very night. Maggie spent weeks fighting through intense treatment, countless blood and platelet transfusions, spinal taps, procedures, medications, and more hospital days than any child should ever have to endure. Leukemia cells were found in her spinal fluid, meaning she needed chemotherapy delivered directly into her spinal fluid as well. Genetic testing showed that Maggie’s leukemia carries a KMT2A (MLL) mutation, a high-risk feature that made her treatment even more aggressive. But Maggie kept fighting. She completed her first phase of treatment and, for a moment, we got the news every cancer family dreams of hearing: Maggie was in remission. On August 7, we were told she was in remission, and we thought we were finally moving toward the next chapter. Her bone marrow transplant was scheduled. We were preparing ourselves for another long hospitalization, but this time, we were preparing to bring her closer to the treatment that we hoped would keep leukemia away for good. Then everything changed again. Instead of being admitted for transplant, we were admitted because her leukemia had returned. This time, AML appeared on her scalp. Our hearts broke all over again. The transplant was put on hold, and Maggie began another round of intensive chemotherapy. She is once again fighting with everything she

Well we gave it some time and the fevers never stopped coming every night around 7:00 so we spoke with our pediatrician who ordered blood work and we took him in got the blood work done it came back and it showed that his hemoglobin was really low so the doctor started a round of iron drops and then we went in and they asked us to do more tests to see if maybe he had a GI bleed well it came back that he did not have a GI bleed so we were referred to go to WellStar children's hospital and Augusta to the oncology clinic to have them look deeper and that is when we found out that he had leukemia and we spent 11 days in the hospital initially.

What started as a small white, sparkly reflection in his eye led us to doctors, multiple appointments, and eventually the devastating diagnosis no parent ever wants to hear\. After learning that his right eye had no vision due to the tumor, we made the difficult decision to have his eye removed to eliminate the cancer and protect his life\. Dani is happiest with the simple little things that bring him joy. He loves watching videos of farm animals and Ms. Rachel. He gets so excited about bubbles and loves playing with toy cars. Seeing his little face light up over the things he loves reminds us that even on the hardest days, there is still so much happiness in the little moments. ❤️ Dani would absolutely love a little ride-on toy car that he can sit in and drive around, especially since he loves being pushed around! DeVon relocated from Kentucky to Jacksonville, Florida so that he could continue his treatment at Nemours Children's Health/Wolfson Children's Hospital. Through everything, DeVon continues to find ways to enjoy being a teenager. He loves gaming, basketball, football, music, fashion, good food and spending time with his family. DeVon loves gaming, basketball, football, music, fashion, sneakers, traveling and trying good food. He is very social and loves spending time with family and friends. Gaming has become especially important during treatment because it gives him something fun and normal to do during hospital admissions and days when he doesn't have the energy or ability to go out. He also has a strong creative side and dreams of becoming a fashion designer one day. Technology that could support both his love of gaming and his creativity would be especially meaningful to him. 9/30/26 - We are from Florida and Emmy was diagnosed with AML - my husband and I immediately moved up to Boston so she could begin treatment at Boston Children's Hospital. We left behind at home (with family) our 14 year old son and 7 year old daughter. This has all been very heavy for us all, but we are determined to get Emmy fully cured and back to being her sweet 12 year old self. Emmy loves dogs, being with her friends, doing nails, being with her family, the beach, volleyball, and pilates Pilates every day!

Hero Benjamin

Hero Benjamin

Age 9

Benjamin started snoring like a grown man and after many doctors appointments they disvovered a mass in this throat. After the biopsy it was so incredibly shocking to find out he had a rare cancer. Benjamin is talkative and very social, funny and so loving, his song request for imaging is Willy Bounce by Elephant Man which the techs find so amusing. Everything is happening so fast after his diagnosis that we are still trying to process one then we get more bad news. Benjamin begins his chemo journey today October 07,2026. We are praying so hard that this treatment works and for a miracle that he will not need to have his voicebox removed . We can't even imaging what that will do to his mental state. He just started his journey and we do not know how heavy his days may become. He is a foodie and enjoys trying new things. His favs are sushi and his mothers chicken enchiladas . His favorite breakfast is his G-Ma's chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. He enjoys watching Gordan Ramesy and other food/cooking shows. He takes comfort in his soft blankets and takes one with him all the time. Keeps one in car, one at grandparents house. He enjoys Pokemon, OnePiece, dragonball Z, and also watches the shows. Into those miniature Lego toys. Enjoys playing the Merge games his G'Ma may have on her tablet.

Hero Eva

Hero Eva

Age 5

Eva’s Story: A Little Girl Who Deserves to Just Be a Child Before cancer changed our lives, Eva was a bright, smart, and very active little girl who loved exploring the world around her. She loved nature, being curious about everything, and enjoying the little things that make childhood so special. Like many children her age, Eva loved playing on her iPad and playing Roblox. She deserved a childhood filled with adventures, laughter, learning, and happy memories. But our journey took a heartbreaking turn when Eva began experiencing persistent leg and buttock pain. For approximately five months, we searched for answers. We took her to multiple doctors’ offices and hospitals, hoping someone could explain why our little girl was suffering. Despite our efforts to find out what was wrong, her symptoms remained undiagnosed. On September 5, 2025, our lives changed forever. Eva was officially diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), a type of blood cancer. By the time Eva was diagnosed, approximately 65% of the cells in her bone marrow were cancerous. The disease had also affected the bones in her spine, leaving her with multiple compression fractures. The pain she had been experiencing was part of a much bigger battle than we could have imagined. As parents, there are no words to describe the heartbreak of learning that your child has cancer. All we wanted was to take away her pain and protect her from the suffering she was facing. Instead, we found ourselves navigating a world of hospital visits, blood tests, chemotherapy, and uncertainty about the future. Eva has had to face challenges that no child should ever have to experience. While other children her age can simply run, play, and enjoy their days, Eva has had to cope with cancer treatment and the lasting effects of damage to her growing bones. Yet Eva is still Eva. Behind the diagnosis is a smart, curious little girl who loves the world around her. She is a child with dreams, interests, and a future full of possibilities. She deserves to laugh, explore nature, play her favorite games, and make memories that have nothing to do with hospitals or cancer. Our greatest wish is for Eva to have the opportunity to enjoy her childhood again—to feel better, to experience less pain, to play freely, and to look forward to the future with excitement instead of medical appointments and treatments. We are sharing Eva’s story because we believe every child deserves moments of happiness, especially those whose childhoods have been interrupted by serious illness. The kindness and generosity of others can bring light into a family’s darkest moments. Sometimes, the gift of a happy experience, a special memory, or simply the chance to feel like a regular child again means more than words can express. Eva’s story is still being written. We hope that one day, when she looks back on her childhood, she will remember not only the difficult things she endured but also the love that surrounded her, the kindness of people who cared, and all the beautiful moments she was given along the way. Eva deserves more than to fight cancer. She deserves the chance to live, play, explore, dream, and simply be a little girl. With hope in our hearts, we look forward to the day when cancer is behind her and her childhood can be filled with the joy she deserves. Eva loves Ipad and play games like Roblox and Minecraft.
