On Monday, July 3, 2017, we took Gia in to the pediatrician's office for a possible ear infection. Since we had started to notice abnormal bruising a week or so prior, we brought that up to our pediatrician in the hopes he could draw labs. Results showed severely low platelet and white blood cell levels. We were admitted to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin that same day. After a number of blood tests, a platelet transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy, we discovered Gia is in bone marrow failure. We are now being led by the wonderful Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team at Children's, and this is GiGi's Journey through this next adventure of our amazingly strong, brave, resilient little girl.
