Mirabel Klug (2 years old) was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia (FA), a rare genetic disorder affecting many parts of her body including bone marrow failure and an increased risk to certain cancers. In March 2016, surgeons removed a cancerous tumor and kidney (also known as Wilms Tumor) from Mirabel, which developed due to her FA. She underwent a lung surgery to remove suspicious lung nodules that turned out benign. She finished chemotherapy for Wilms Tumor (Nephroblastoma Cancer). She was getting prepped to have a bone marrow transplant to cure the hematological aspect of FA, but it was recently cancelled. We had her "end of treatment" scan and a new 6cm tumor showed up. She had a CT scan that found 4 new tumors in her liver and 1 new tumor in her lung. Due to her Fanconi Anemia and her defect in double strand DNA repair she is not a candidate for the standard treatment of recurrent Wilms of high dose chemotherapy/radiation/and stem cell transplant. She was prescribed oral cytoxan that proved to be very toxic for Mirabel. She spend a week as inpatient and required a blood and platelet transfusion. Due to her ANC being around 0 we have had to limit her exposure to friends, family, and people in general. We do not know how much longer we have with her. She loves watching bubble guppies and youtube videos of people and playing with princesses. She has an Ipad but the screen is broken after it fell on our steps while she was playing the music maker app.
