About Riley
Riley was diagnosed when he was only 4 years old with brain cancer. He had 3 brain tumors and a tumor at the bottom of his spine. He endured 31 days of proton radiation and 6 cycles of high dose, inpatient chemotherapy. Side effects included losing his hair, appetite, hearing loss (wears hearing aids), and lost his ability to walk so he remains in a wheelchair, along with many other side effects. We were lucky and Riley responded to the treatment, and was stable for 18 months. However, on June 1, his MRI revealed a new brain tumor, so Riley had relapsed. This was devastating news. The fear hits you so hard and all of those dark memories from when he was first diagnosed return. You feel crushed and numb. Due to this relapse, Riley is undergoing chemotherapy again for the next year. Riley is the bravest and strongest kid I know. He never asks questions, he just goes through it. It's so sad that your child tells people he has brain cancer, and when he hears the word cancer on tv he cries and says he's scared of cancer. He's just a little 7 year old boy who just wishes he felt better. He says he will never feel good again. He's outgoing, sympathetic, caring, and kind. Riley is our hero and an inspiration to so many!
