Mid December 2017 Dave and Erica Block learned that one of their twin daughters, Stella, has cancer. This was just two weeks after Erica, an Active Duty Army Officer, had just ran the Humana Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio, St. Jude Heroes 1/2 Marathon just because she wanted to give back. Little did she know the way her entire life would be changed when Stella wasn't bouncing back from fevers over the Thanksgiving holiday, and had complained of leg pain. Erica shared on Stella's FB page, that moment she realized that Stella could have something serious going on, when comparing her skin color to that of her twin sister Abigails one night in the bath. Calvin, her older brother just finished Kindergarten, and has obtained an interest in becoming a Doctor after his sisters diagnosis. Little brother Henry, or Hank as the family often refers to him, makes FB appearances giving Stella hugs and kisses when she isn't feeling well from the ever frequent lumbar punctures and chemo treatments. I served alongside Erica and it pains me to be so far away during what is an unimaginably tough time in their life. She always puts forth a strong, loving, supportive face for her family. She often posts about Stella's late night steroid cravings, and is sure to share Stella's good days and her smiles! My friend Michelle Russel from foreverfiercefoundation recommended I reach out and I am hopeful that through this amazing opportunity Stella can share some smiles with her family, as she continues to fight a fight that no child should ever experience.
