When we started to notice Kaden slowing down, his appetite changing and noticing he was suffering from nausea, we decided a trip to the doctor was in order. His regular pediatrician looked him over, reviewed his growth percentages and assumed all was well. After two days with Kaden's symptoms persisting we went back for a second opinion. Right away the doctor noticed Kaden was pale and ordered blood work to be done that same day. The doctor later called to advise that Kaden would need to be seen right away by a Hematologist at Children's Hospital. A few days later Kaden was seen at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. It was at that appointment our family was told Kaden had Leukemia. After numerous tests over the next few days they got a more precise diagnosis of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Kaden's life changed dramatically that week. Kaden began an intensive regimen of Chemotherapy. For the next few months, Kaden had to avoid contact with other children to reduce the risk of catching any kind of infections. Kaden has endured Chemotherapy, several transfusions, spinal taps and numerous nights in the hospital. He currently has completed the standard phases of treatment : induction, consolidation, interim maintenance and delayed intensification, and is now in the maintenance phase. For the next two years he will continue with daily oral doses of chemotherapy, monthly steroid pulses and spinal injections of chemotherapy. Kaden has a huge love for trash trucks! He awaits the trash man every Friday with a snack in hand to brighten their day. Aside from trash trucks, Kaden loves to play outside riding his bike, playing catch with dad and spending time with his cousins. Things that are all possible again now that he's in the maintenance phase of his treatment. Kaden's hair has grown back, looking at him you wouldn't know what he has been through over the last year. We (Kadens parents) are so appreciative of all the doctors, nurses and the strength of their little hero. Kaden has a huge love for trash trucks. He loves Disney movies and cartoons a few of his favorites are Cars, PJ Masks and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He spends a lot of time at home and enjoys playing with his trains, coloring and building.If you ask his favorite coloe he will tell you Waste Management colors Green and Yellow. A big goal of Kadens is to get to go to school with other kids his age. He is due to start TK this fall if all goes well.
