The week leading up to Christmas of 2022 Finley started complaining that it hurt when we put his shoes on. Other than that he continued walking, playing, and jumping on our trampoline, he went to school, and played with all his cousins on Christmas Eve. By Christmas Day night, the foot pain got worse, now refusing to put weight on his foot and was crawling to get around. The 26th we took him into the pediatrician, the pediatrician took X-rays of his foot which was all normal, Finley was diagnosed with pain following a virus since he had just had an ear infection 2 weeks earlier. We were told to give him ibuprofen and rest. Come back if it doesn’t improve. Very soon, it became obvious to us that he was not improving. Thursday (29th) afternoon we headed back to the pediatrician, he did more X-rays and bloodwork, stating that due to the recent ear infection the infection had probably settled in his foot and we should see Ortho tomorrow. Friday morning the pediatrician called, we were not looking at an Ortho problem, and needed to shift our focus to Finley seeing a “blood doctor” due to “worrysome” findings on his labs. Within 4 hours we were admitted to St. Vincent’s PICU with a diagnosis of ALL Leukemia.
